9 Simple Tips for Boosting Your Metabolism

Everybody who wants to lose weight wishes they could somehow boost their metabolism. But the metabolism is a tricky subject, as there are so many factors that determine it. Age, gender, genetics, lifestyle… these are all factors that can cause your metabolism to become sluggish. Many of these factors are out of our control, but luckily there are some that we can use in our advantage to speed up our metabolism! A few very effective ways we can do this are:

  1. Pump Some Iron.

Even if we are not actively doing exercise, our bodies are busy burning calories. However, it does this much faster in people with more muscle mass. Also, when you do resistance training it activates a process known as “afterburn”, where the body burns calories for a longer period after your workout than it would after a cardio session.Fat Burner Landscape-01

  1. High Intensity Cardio Workout.

Along with weight training, you should consider stepping up your cardio game as a short, fast paced, high impact session will give much better results than a long, sluggish walk on the treadmill.

  1. Drink up!

Water, water and water. These are the three most important things to drink. As soon as you are even the slightest bit dehydrated, your body starts burning calories more slowly. You should drink a glass of water even before you begin to feel thirsty.

  1. Eat Less, More.

The key to avoid over eating and unhealthy snacking is to divide your usual 3 meals per day into 5 or 6 smaller ones. This means that you get to eat a healthy, balanced meal every 2 hours or so! This will also help keep your metabolism active throughout the day.

  1. Spice Things Up!

There are certain chemical compounds found in hot spices and things like chilli peppers that can give your metabolism a quick boost. Unfortunately, this only lasts for a short while. In order to benefit from this, you should be eating something spicy at least once a day.

  1. Hello, Protein!

The body is much better at burning calories from protein than calories from carbs. I’m not saying you should cut out carbs completely, but swap some of it out for lean protein. The best food for the job is lean beef, fish, and nuts, chicken, and low-fat dairy.

  1. Would You Like Some Coffee or (Green) Tea?

Although it might not taste all too great, it does hold some nifty calorie burning benefits. It contains caffeine and catechins which help boost the metabolism for a few hours. Black, sugarless coffee also has the same affect.

  1. Steer Clear of Crash Diets.

Those 2 week, 1000 calorie a day diets do more harm than good to your body, Especially when you are trying to speed up your metabolism! The reason you lose weight quickly on those diets is because you are malnourished, and the body starts burning muscle. And as we saw earlier, less muscle means slower metabolism!
