How’s your diet going? Are you tired of eating salads and being hungry all day long?
I think I might be able to help you understand why…
If you are trying to stay in line with a very strict diet, and you tell yourself that you only have to hang in there for 3 more weeks – that’s the first problem. If you are not eating in a way that you can keep up after your crash diet is over, are the results actually going to last?
But I mean you can’t really expect much more. Most diets starve you out for a few weeks, and then let you go back to eating unhealthy. There is no balance. And balance is essential when it comes to what you eat.
So how do I stay on a diet for longer than 2 weeks?
Firstly, get rid of your current definition of “diet”. A diet is not something that you do for a few weeks, and then eat away all the progress you have made. A diet is actually a way of life.
A good diet is something that gives you all the nutrition, energy, and taste-satisfaction that you need and desire.
If you want to lose weight, maintain this weight, and just live a more healthy life in the long run in general, here are a few pointers that may help…
- Eat Food That You Enjoy, and Enjoy Your Food
No, this doesn’t mean you should live on pizza and chocolate bars.
Just don’t eat foods for the sole purpose of them being healthy. There are so many healthy foods out there, that you can get away with only eating the ones you like. And the different ways that you can prepare them are endless!
So what healthy food actually tastes good?
Well, this is going to be a long list…
Steak, scrambled eggs, bacon, avocado, freshly baked whole wheat toast with farm butter, a crisp Caprese salad on a hot summer day – and some watermelon after that, roast veggies and a few chops on the braai… I could go on, but I think you get the picture.
Eating healthy doesn’t have to be a punishment. Actually – it can be pretty darn tasty.
The Manna Diet was compiled from a lot of different research to give you a healthy guideline. The bottom line is to reduce carbohydrates, eat Low GI and have a healthy lifestyle without being on a “diet”.
- Give Your Body Time To Adjust.
OK, hands up: Who has ever decided to start eating completely healthy, exercising every day, and cutting out all bad foods… only for it to last a few days?
You’ve got to ease into being healthy. You are going to shock your body if you take away all of its junk food at once. Your healthy lifestyle will probably only last for about a week due to all the extra stress you are placing on yourself anyway.
Just start by gradually cutting out some of the bad things and replacing them with healthy things. Slow and steady wins the race.
(You can put your hand down now.)
- Don’t Starve Yourself.
Eating half a grape and a sesame seed might make you drop 5kg in a week, but you are probably going to pick it up again just as quickly.
Never-mind the fact that starving yourself is not sustainable, it actually has some really bad long term effects. Especially when you are trying to lose weight…
When you starve yourself, your body goes into starvation mode. This does not mean you have achieved your goal; starvation mode is a BAD thing.
When in starvation mode, your body does not know when it will be getting a proper meal again, so it stores all of the food it gets as fat. It also goes into “power save” mode which makes you feel tired and makes it even harder to lose weight because you don’t feel like exercising.
Your body needs nourishment. Once again it comes back to balance. Eating healthy, balanced meals and snacks throughout the day is vital for weight loss.

“My wife and I have been using the Manna now for just over a year. We both lost more than 20 kgs using it as a meal replacement twice a day. The change in formulation last year did not enhance the taste. As a matter of fact, I was looking to go elsewhere. However, this new formulation tastes great and we will continue to use it. Would be nice if your retail outlets got the new formulation as I don’t drink the old one. But I must say, ordering from the factory has been great with speedy delivery.” – Danie de Waal
