Effects of High Uric Acid
Effects of high uric acid can be very damaging to your body.
The most common causes of these would be gout and kidney stones.
Even though a gout attack will go away and kidney stones can be removed there are more serious effects of high uric acid. For example: kidney failure, liver disease and heart failure may also develop. Now these are extreme, but could happen with elevated uric acid levels for an extended time period.
High uric acid has been found just before high blood pressure and heart disease develop. Studies aren’t sure if this is an effect of high uric acid or a warning sign.
Gout is a form of arthritis, the most painful one. That is what I get, Lucky me! Gout is a result of elevated uric acid levels in your blood. Your body can’t get rid of enough uric acid so the remainder of it forms crystals around your connective tissue.
Usually in your lower extremities. For me it is my feet. It could be a knee or an ankle. Even fingers and toes. Everyone is different and has an area of their body that is affected differently. The pain is the same, but body parts can and will be different.
If you have suffered through a gout attack you can bet there is another one waiting for you around the corner. You need to make some changes in your life and figure out how to lower uric acid levels in your body. If you don’t, you will continue to get painful gout attacks.
The next step could be worse. Maybe kidney failure, heart problems, who knows? You need to realize there is a problem, and address it.
Effects of High Uric Acid – Kidney Stones
There are a number of different types of kidney stones. The one that is an effect of high uric acid is called, uric acid kidney stones. I wonder how they came up with that name. Also referred to as uric acid stones. These are not as common as the rest, they only account for about 5 to 10% of all kidney stones. The bad news, if you have had one you will probably have another sometime down the road.
Kidney stones can be analyzed by a doctor to tell you what kind of kidney stone it is. So if you pass one keep it and give it to your doctor. When stones pass they can and probably will cause extreme pain. Four letter word pain!
Staying hydrated plays a big role here. If you become dehydrated, your body will not have the water needed to dissolve the uric acid. If this happens, the uric acid that has not dissolved can form crystals. The crystals form into uric acid kidney stones.
